Ayn Rand / Conservatism

I just ran across this article from a few years ago on Enter Stage Right. The author talks about what Ayn Rand had to say about conservatism, and how even though conservatives talk the talk of individual rights, they don't walk the walk nearly as often.

Here's a relevant-to-my-theme highlight!

"Who isn’t sounding the clarion call of individualism today? If you are old enough, your kids may be listening to formulaic punk music that calls for individualism by adopting a collectivist philosophy."

Damn straight they are.

"Be an individual! Be unique! Reject the system! Do what we say and vote only Democrat and refer to yourself as a 'progressive' or else you can't be in the Exclusive Individual Club! And we'll call you a fascist poseur, or something!"

Anyway, the article is chock full o' insight into what Rand thought was wrong with conservatism. An interesting read.
