80's Hair Metal
Check out the comments under this post at Right-Thinking. They're talking about the political messages behind the metal of the 80's compared to the metal of today.
Discussing being a metal fan back in the Swingin' Eighties, a reader named Scott had this to say:
"We didn't want to be told how to think and what causes to support, whereas metal nowadays demands ideological left-wing conformity. Is this not the ultimate irony of a musical genre that used to totally be about non-conformity?"
Pretend that he said "punk" in that first sentence instead of "metal," and you'll have a brilliant, concise assesment of why I go a little more batshit every day.
